My name is Stephanie McGary and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist here in my hometown of Dallas, TX. As a full time Mental Health Coach, I support educators in learning how to integrate academics and social emotional health into their every day instruction. While this work is very important, I have noticed that there is a piece missing, a focus on the mental and emotional wellbeing of the educator. Although most of my work is centered around training educators on the impacts of childhood Trauma, it has become evident that the most important tool in the classroom, the teacher, is being left out. Due to this revelation, I decided to start Tots N' Teachers as a part time service. In my experience, cost and location are sometimes barriers for teachers so I decided to lower the cost and provide Telehealth services allowing teachers to attend therapy from their classroom, car, home, or wherever they feel most comfortable. If you are a teacher experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, isolation, and/or burnout, TnT was created for you.
I received my Masters in Counseling from Southern Methodist University with a focus in Child-Centered Play Therapy. While at SMU, I spent time training at Dallas Children's Advocacy center while also volunteering at Children's Health formerly Children's Medical Center in their Child Life Department. I deepened my Play Therapy skill set by receiving post graduate training at Momentous Institute, formerly The Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers, where I utilized Play Therapy techniques to support children and families with histories of trauma and facilitated social skills groups as well as parent education classes.
As a clinician who has worked with both Tots and Teachers, I have witnessed unique beauties and challenges both populations experience. I look forward to supporting both from a non-judgmental and child/client-centered perspective. For more information about Play Therapy please visit www.a4pt.org.
